Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor who has been without a club since
June has joined Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir on an 18-month contract for an undisclosed fee.
The 32-year old wore his country’s colours at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, but could not lead them into the second round of the tournament after they finished 4th in Group C with 1 point.
The experienced striker has been without a club since he left Crystal Palace last year, but has completed a move to the Turkish league side on Tuesday.
He is to wear the No.26 jersey.
“I had talks with a lot of people from this club and the way they presented the project to me was quite interesting,” Adebayor told beIN Sports.
“I am happy to be part of this beautiful project and to be part of this club.
“I want to do my job, which is to score goals and to help the team in games,” he stated.
Adebayor, who has played for English top flight teams Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Crystal Palace, will now move to Basaksehir, who are currently placed second in the Super Lig campaign with 42 points from 19 games, and two points behind leaders Besiktas.
“He was one of the players on our transfer shortlist,” said director Mustafa Erogut.
“He returned with a positive report and we then contacted Adebayor. The player is impressed by the club’s project and the president’s vision so it is clear to us that the club and the player will contribute to each other,” he added.
