Christian Bassogog Cameroon forward named AFCON 2017 Best Player

Bassogog and his Cameroon teammates beat Egypt 2-1 on Sunday, February 5 to lift their fifth AFCON titles.

Cameroon forward Christian Bassogog has been named the Best Player of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after leading the Indomitable Lions to the title.

Bassogog and his Cameroon teammates beat Egypt 2-1 on Sunday, February 5 to lift their fifth AFCON titles.
Before the tournament, Cameroon were rocked with the withdrawal of several first team players including Liverpool defender Joel Matip.
But Bassogog stepped in with a series of impressive performances to lead Cameroon to a remarkable AFCON title win.
He is the first Cameroonian player to win the Best Player’s prize of an AFCON since former captain and defender Rigobert Song.
He scored one goal in the AFCON 2017 and put in a commanding performance also in the final.
